Country garden in Wiltshire
This three-acre family garden is located within an International Dark Sky Reserve that is also an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For this reason, the design was kept sympathetic to nearby SSIs such as meadows and ancient woodlands.
• The geometry in the garden was created using marbling patterns which were inspired by the beautiful and organic shapes of deep space nebulas and galaxies.
•I wanted to capture the magical atmosphere of a garden at night - the rustling and movement of grasses, the reflections of the moon on water, the stars and milky light - so chose planting that retains atmosphere and character in the dark: pale colours and textures that catch the starlight and respect the strict Dark Sky Reserve rules on outdoor lighting.
•The design connects the house and existing garden to the paddock and gives a sense of unity, providing a garden that the clients could enjoy with friends and family, as well one that could be a quiet retreat from their busy social lives. Views from the principal rooms are significantly improved, whilst the front of house approach gained added interest whilst being softened..
